What are Implants?
Implant is an artificial tooth root which is used to support artificial teeth to give natural feel to patient. Implants are made of titanium which can easily fuse with living bone and makes the process osseointegration successful.
What are the types of Dental Implant?
Types of Dental Implant are:
• Root form Dental Implant (cylindrical or screw type Implant)
• Plate Form Implant
• Subperiosteal Implant

What is the purpose for dental implant?
Dental Implants come under fixed treatment. If patient does not want the support of adjacent tooth or adjacent teeth are week, in that case implant is a good option. Implant acts as a artificial root and on top of it crown can be fabricated.
What is the procedure to fix Dental Implant?
Before fixing Dental Implant detail study of vital tissues, Blood tests are done by Implantologist to minimize the complications after surgery. There is a special drilling machine and equipments for Implant surgery. With the help of drilling machine pilot hole is drilled in recipient bone and slowly and slowly this hole is enlarged. High speed drills are used to prevent burning or pressure necrosis of bone.
After drilling hole Implant screw is screwed in place and then variable amount of time is given for the Osseointegration (bone grows on the surface of Implant) process. Normally Implantologists gives 2 - 6 months time for healing. Once this process succeeds, then tooth or teeth can be placed on Implant.

What are the major considerations of Dental Implant?
Major Considerations are:
• Enough bone should be present and bone should be healthy and strong to bear the forces and stress during implant surgery.
• Patient should be educated to understand the consequences if oral hygiene is not maintained after procedure.
• Risk of failure increased in smokers, for this reason Implant is placed after patient stop smoking.
What are the immediate contraindications of Dental Implant?
Immediate Contraindications are:
• Patient who cannot maintain oral hygiene, in those cases dental Implant is a failure.
• In uncontrolled type 2 Diabetes, dental implant is contraindicated due to poor peripheral Blood circulation.
• Patients who are in habit of clinching teeth or grinding teeth, Dental Implant is not a success.
